In the beginning, many web site designers began experimenting with
‘bells and whistles’ that, on the surface, might appeal to their target
audience. Flash intros, java applets, animation and other rich media has
become increasingly popular over the years.
In the rush to have
the ‘coolest’ site design, web site owners have forgotten who they are
designing their site for: their target audience. ‘Bells and whistles’
should be used to complement your site rather than showcase the
designers’ abilities.
The irony in designing a ‘flashy’ web site
is that the one who is going to appreciate it the most is another web
designer, not your target market.
Keep focused on conveying your message and make sure it's not lost in an overpowering flashy design.
